I don’t think so! We want GOOD Port in a storm — or any other time for that matter! Come on in and try some ports that you may not have had the opportunity to try before. We are pouring two California wines from Prager Winery & Portworks, a boutique producer located in St. Helena.

First, I offer you their 2006 Aria which is a white port made from 100% Napa Valley Chardonnay grapes. This wonderful port was aged for three years in oak barrels. Aria has flavors of baked pears and apples with a hazelnut finish. This makes a beautiful aperitif or enjoy it with shellfish, cream soups, cheeses or a dessert accompaniment with creme brulee!

Next, I offer you Noble Companion, a 10-Year-Old Tawny Port. This wine is made from Cabernet Sauvignon, the “Noble Grape.” After ten years in barrel… this wine is golden-orange tawny color, with a fully developed bouquet of soft oak, orange rind and anise. On the palate you will discover rich caramel, plum, and cherries with creamy texture with candied orange peel and walnut on the finish.

And it gets better… we have just received some beautiful handmade chocolate bars from El Ceibo. These delights are made in Bolivia following organic methods. El Ceibo has been making these wonders since 1977 but are new to the West Coast and we are proud to be able to offer these to you. I will have samples for you to enjoy with your port wine.

Please note that the wine shoppe will be closed for winter wine/vacation trips on the following dates:

January 21 (Saturday) – 24 (Tuesday) for a Wine Tasting/Buying Trip to Oregon.

February 17 (Friday) – March 1 (Thursday) for a wine tasting/buying vacation trip to California and Mexico (Baja Peninsula).

Welcome to Ocean Shores, Washington and more specifically… to our special place on the coast. We are so glad that you are visiting our website and hope to meet you soon in our wine shoppe. We are the owners of Sipping Serendipity Wine Shoppe and have chosen this name because we so love the concept.  Serendipity… the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely.

My husband, Alan, and I moved to Ocean Shores in 2010. He is newly retired and we decided that relocating to the Pacific Northwest would bring us much happiness in our retirement years. And then… this serendipitous opportunity presented itself and we embraced it. On April 14 we will be opening our doors to our community and all its visitors. A dream come true for me!

Our son and his wife and our daughters and their signficant others have supported and encouraged us through this process and have played a major role in helping us with everything from the design of our logo to the develpment of our website and we thank them very much! Our new Ocean Shores friends as well as family and friends from other places have encouraged us as well.

When you visit our shoppe we encourage you to explore the many bottles of wine from the Pacific Northwest and all around the world. We will be happy to answer your questions and make suggestions about our wines. Do you need a little guidance with a food and wine pairing? We will be more than pleased to help you with that.  Would you like to enjoy a glass of wine or maybe a flight of red or white wines in our shoppe? We offer those options everyday at our wine bar.  We also have an assortment of IPA’s if that is your preference. And if you are looking for a refreshing non-alcoholic beverage we can offer you something from our retro-sodas collection.  We look forward to serving you!

Looking for a gift item? We can help you choose a bottle of wine or maybe you would prefer a gift certificate. We have a selection of other items as well including napkins, wine accessories, bags, glassware and of course the edible items including chocolates, gourmet crackers, and other snacks.

We hope to see you soon and often!  Cheers!

“What is the definition of a good wine? It should start and end with a smile.” — William Sokolin

Grape Encounters…

Petit Verdot usually comes from Bordeaux (France) although there are some wonderful grapes being grown here in our own state of Washington. It has long been used as a blending grape but when in the hands of a skilled winemaker it can be a stand alone varietal. Not every vintage produces a grape that can stand on its own but there have been some recent vintages that can do just that.

Petite Verdot (little green one) possibly takes its name from a tendency to produce diminutive green berries under poor growing conditions. Vulnerable to early frost, these difficult and problem prone grapes ripen late in the autumn and are usually the last grape harvested.

Earthy and distinctly un-fruity, Petit Verdot is dark in color and offers a chewy and dignified wine.

Pairs well with gumbo and jambalaya. Also try with Mongolian barbecue and highly spiced Thai dishes.

We have one in the shoppe that you might want to consider trying. It comes from Marchetti out of Olympia and is an excellent example on how well this grape can do on its own. Cheers!
